For lessons at Reigate Grammar and Cranleigh School
- Please note that while the school acts as a facilitator for lessons, I am not an employee of the school and your contract for lessons is with me direct, not the school. Being self-employed, I am entitled to set my own rates, which may be different to other music teachers at school.
- I will invoice parents directly, termly in advance. Parents are asked to provide payment promptly by bank transfer, as detailed on the invoice. Lessons may cease if an invoice is not paid within a month of the date of the invoice. Further action may be taken to recover fees if they are still not forthcoming.
- A term’s notice is required for stopping lessons. Failure to give sufficient notice will render the parent liable for the fees of a further term.
- Instrumental lessons are normally given weekly and the times rotated where possible, apart from pupils who are entitled to a fixed lesson. Parents and pupils can not pick and choose which class lessons they miss.
- Around 27 lessons are given in an academic year, though this number may be vary. Each term I will invoice for the number of lessons I expect to give. In the long Autumn term this is normally 12 lessons; in the Spring term, 9 lessons and the short Summer term, 6 lessons. Any adjustments will be reflected in the following term’s invoice. Extra lessons may be fitted in by mutual agreement, especially when leading up to an exam.
- Lesson timetables are posted on SOCs. It is the pupils’ responsibility to check their lesson times.
- Pupils are responsible for remembering their lesson times and attending promptly. Forgotten lessons will be forfeited. For prep school pupils, I will try to find them if they are more than 5 minutes late. However, if I am unable to find them – for example if the lesson is during break time when pupils are hard to find, or the class is not in their normal room – the lesson will be forfeited. I will not attempt to find senior school pupils, but will send a reminder by email or Teams.
- Lessons missed by pupils are not made up, and no reimbursement of fees will be made. In cases of known absence, and if the pupil is not going to be out of school for the whole day – for example if a pupil has a hospital appointment which clashes with the lesson time – it may be possible to change the lesson time. However, this can’t be guaranteed, and a week’s notice is essential to give me time to try to arrange a lesson swap. Lessons missed due to being ill or on holiday are forfeited. I only visit the school one day a week cannot come in on a different day to make up a missed lesson.
- Lessons missed due to a school event (such as a trip or match) will be rearranged, provided that at least a week’s notice has been given. Failure to provide this notice will result in the lesson being forfeited. I rely on parents and pupils to keep me informed of school events– do not assume that I have read the school calendar, or that the school will have kept me informed about trips and matches.
- Lessons cancelled by me will be made up or the fees refunded.

- Whilst I will make every reasonable effort to help the pupil to progress, it must be accepted by the parent that progress will not be made if the pupil does not practise regularly as directed.
- I may wish to enter the pupil for a graded music examination as appropriate. This must be agreed by the parent, who will be responsible for paying the examination board’s fees. It may also be necessary to pay an additional fee for an accompanist.
